Timeless Victorian doors for a contemporary self-build
This client’s home is the stunning backdrop to a very contemporary lifestyle and outlook, yet there are stylistic nods to more traditional values and aesthetics. We needed to reconcile the two.
From the moment we began working with this client and their interior designer, the choice of door was never really in question. Our beautiful and luxurious Victorian doors were the perfect match for their surroundings, especially since we carefully bucked convention by finishing the leaves and architraves in two different colours. While the frames and architraves are white, we used Farrow & Ball-matched ‘Railings’ for the leaves themselves. This softer alternative to black creates a wonderful contrast with the surrounding white woodwork but delivers a slightly less stark look. Overall, the mix of two finishes adds interest and uniqueness but doesn’t leave the space feeling too oppressive or dark.
Like so much of our design input, this project was very much a matter of striking the perfect balance. Of course, the styles and finishes of our doors are only half the story, since their hardware is remarkable too. Here was no exception, with our specification of Buster & Punch handles in black adding an extra touch of contemporary style. Meanwhile, hidden hinges make for a look that’s simultaneously discreet and unfussy.
In all, we supplied eleven bespoke doors for this project, all crafted using engineered timber of the highest quality to make products that are consistently immaculate, extremely stable and long lasting, and which will perform perfectly – and satisfyingly – time after time.
The doors were perfectly complemented by clay plaster installed by Mudco Ltd.

“Deuren were more than a match for my high standards and rose effortlessly to the challenge of creating doors that don’t just do their jobs, they really enhance the spaces they occupy. The finished effect is perfect for our new home, and I think that’s a testimony to the team’s ability to really listen to the customer and think things through, not just sell whatever doors suits them best."
