Using dark timber to create beautiful contrast with light walls
Although many of our clients are self-builders, by no means all are. For this project, we were asked to provide beautiful bespoke internal doors that would add a little interested to a new home bought by the client.
The quality of our doors was already well understood by the client, who appreciated their precision build, solid construction and visibly superior hardware. Even so, we were tasked with creating products that would elevate their property through a mixture of beauty and character: an appeal to our flair with visual creativity.
Like many of our clients, this one came to visit our Yorkshire workshop to see for himself just how much time and effort goes into designing and making our bespoke internal doors. We chatted at length about what he wanted from his own doors, and showed lots of examples of the almost infinite number of styles and finishes available. A million miles from your average door manufacturer, at Deuren we’d rather our clients take their time to mull things over and choose carefully, unless they already have a very fixed idea about exactly what they want.
In the end, this client opted for Trem H doors in a stunning and innovative wenge finish. While the simplicity of the doors themselves exudes quite sophistication, that particular finish couldn’t be more special. Here, horizontal bands of a satisfying depth help hit the sweet spot in terms of visual proportions. Meanwhile, the finish itself offers a wonderfully rich, warm and subtly grained contrast to the relatively plain and neutral surroundings. It's a winning combination, undeniably eye-catching but never too bold or ostentatious. Simple, brushed steel handles and locks perfectly complete the picture.
Even relatively straightforward projects like this one give us immense satisfaction, not least because of the palpable impact our doors can have on a homeowner’s love of their property. The fact that our client had a close relationship and smooth, stress-free experience with us only adds to that sense of satisfaction – theirs as well as ours.
