Artistic mastery with an oversized sliding door

The brief was for just one single door, but at 4m wide and 2.8m tall, the door itself is huge – significantly bigger than we’re used to creating in a sliding door format. Thanks to our considerable expertise and proven ingenuity, this unusual sizing wasn’t a problem, but it did require us to think creatively and carefully consider any implications in terms of design and engineering. While the client’s brief was clearly for something exceptional and breathtaking, as with every door we ever make, this one would still need to operate flawlessly. 

In line with our core belief in the pursuit of perfection, and to ensure we delivered the best possible solution in terms of customer satisfaction, we offered two very different initial options.  Option one was for a single large sliding door, while the alternative was for a smaller sliding door featuring two static glazed side panels. Our client chose the former. 

The finished door is a beautiful work of engineering and artistic mastery, expertly bespoke to look like four independent panels but actually functioning as a single sliding piece. The Trem H design is finished in walnut on the kitchen-facing side and oak on the side that faces the dining room – the two different light and dark finishes perfectly complementing their very different respective surroundings. Great care was taken to make sure the slider’s top track could be fitted discreetly and safely into the underside of the space’s elevated timber beam.

Overall, the project went brilliantly and the end result delivers on every level. It’s only added to our confidence too, and made us keener than ever to take on more briefs involving oversized doors and doors which double as works of art.
