Light, Privacy, Security - A Modern Arched Entrance
Our client wanted a modern, high-performance bespoke front door that combined contemporary looks and quality functionality while complementing the characterful architecture of their home, particularly the arched front door aperture.
The homeowner was determined to uphold the existing doorway’s integrity, with a door and window integrated into a single unified frame for a seamless finish. Other manufacturers had been unable or unwilling to achieve it, offering solutions simpler to produce but which meant a bulky and unsightly framework that interrupted the aesthetics of the overall finish. This would have been a disappointing compromise that the client was reluctant to settle for.
Intelligent flow of light was another consideration to factor in, since the doorway’s position gave it the potential to help transform an otherwise underlit hallway. In short, here was a golden opportunity to enhance the home’s interior as well as its kerb appeal.
With their deep understanding of the interplay between form and function, our designers took the creative lead and recommended a beautiful Pianura 2 door whose tall, narrow window allowed in extra light while maintaining the entrance’s integrity and security.
Meanwhile, for that all-important space above the door itself we designed and crafted an arched, glazed transom that simultaneously maintained privacy while allowing more light into the building. Crucially, we were able to honour the client’s wish for a clean, unified frame by engineering one from scratch from solid 90mm thick hardwood block, then using precise CNC machining to create the unique curved window area. We suggested stainless steel trims to add to the door’s overall security and make a great match for its anthracite grey finish and sleek, vertical handle, helping us deliver a coherent minimal look as stylishly understated as it is unique and contemporary.
