Persevering with contemporary design details for a stunning finish

Our architect client needed very specific high-end bespoke doors for the self-built home he had designed himself.  His concept and plans were meticulous, and his wish for shadow-gap doors were being met with nervous scepticism by builders who considered them too labour intensive.

Doors with shadow gaps might not be something we get asked for very often, but they’re well within our capability and a configuration we’re more than happy to create. These doors look as though they’re built into the wall itself and need no architrave, but they are considered a speciality door and require extra care when it comes to design, crafting and installation.

The client had specified a mix of conventional-framed doors and shadow-gap doors, so we set to work creating both. We began by framing and plastering the shadow-gap door openings, carefully cutting the frames to precisely accommodate the irregular shapes of the property’s rough stonework.

Like every door we make, the Trem H style doors for this project were designed, manufactured and carefully hand finished in our state-of-the-art workshop in West Yorkshire.  A consistent Satin Walnut finish provides an irresistible orangey hue to every door, with a satisfying grain lending extra detail and interest.

We made beautiful single and double-leaf doors for this project, each one engineered and finished to the exceptionally high standards we’ve built our name on.  Precision hardware and meticulous installation guarantee smooth, satisfying performance and years of trouble-free use, while finishes are applied with all the breathtaking attention to detail you’d expect from a true luxury product.

All in all, this unusual and interesting project was a pleasure to be involved in, and we worked closely with the entire house-build team to satisfy our part of the brief quickly, efficiently and with as little disruption as possible. Exceptional products are one thing, but we love to make sure that the customer experience is just as much of a pleasure.

“As an architect, I had a particularly clear vision of how I wanted the finished interior to look, and it relied on finding a door manufacturer capable of working closely with me then producing exactly the products I needed. I’m pleased to say Deuren rose to their reputation, proving easy to work with and more than a match for the technicalities of designing and making shadow-gap doors.  Their products in our home are amazing: intelligently designed, lovely to use and beautifully finished. I couldn’t be happier.”
