Going above and beyond, with an extra tall entrance door

Like many of the projects we work on, in this case our client’s home skilfully blends a modern and traditional aesthetic.  While the overall effect of this is a property that exudes architectural and visual interest, it does present the challenge of creating doors that will complement the building’s unique ‘look’ as well as help produce a satisfying and coherent whole. Another challenge specific to this job was the thickness of the property’s walls, which are far more substantial than a typical new build.

Collaborating with the client’s architect, we designed and crafted a collection of doors which, where necessary, worked perfectly with the home’s unusually thick walls. We produced a beautiful, extra-tall entrance door fitted between handsome bespoke side transoms, also made by us.  The door itself is our Toba style, finished in an OohLaLa bespoke veneer and fitted with a Phillip Watts handle, completing a look of impressive simplicity.  Meanwhile, a double drop-down seal provides superb airtightness against the wind and cold. Inside, throughout the home we fitted Vario 4 internal doors in walnut, installing each one with its corresponding architrave, made bespoke in dimensions to suit the wall’s thickness.  The beautiful grain and tones of these doors works well in all areas of the house, regardless of the availability of natural light.

Overall, another satisfying project successfully completed, with the added reassurance that our products’ intelligent design and precision engineering helped the finished property sail through its mandatory airtightness test.

“We always felt we had one last move in us, so why not make our next home perfect!  Deuren played a really significant part in this, making the whole process incredibly smooth but, more importantly for us, supplying top-quality products that look just right in their context. Not surprisingly, the doors get lots of comments, all of them positive!”
